Boating in South India goes way back in history when English adventurer and buccaneer William Dampier, traveling around the world in 1690s found himself on Southeastern coast of India, in Tamilnadu on the Bay of Bengal and found kattumaram's here. The word Catamaran has originated from Tamil word “Kattumaram”.
